Arrested for unlawful possession of arms

A 27-year-old, Abdul Basit has been arrested in Sakabo, a suburb of Bawku for the unlawful possession of an offensive weapon.

According to reports, a team of Military personnel who were on patrol heard gunshots from a distance and proceeded to the scene where they pursued the suspect who was seen running into a room after sighting the military officers.

A search was conducted in his room, where an AK-47 assault rifle with 31 rounds of ammunition were found. He is said to have admitted that he owned the weapon during interrogation.

The suspect, Basit is currently in police custody assisting investigations.
