The Ghana Police Service has arrested a suspected gang leader and one other individual in connection with the robbery incident that resulted in the tragic death of Dominic Frimpong, a footballer with Berekum Chelsea F.C.

According to preliminary information released by the police, the arrests were made following an intelligence-led operation aimed at tracking down those believed to be responsible for the fatal robbery.

The operation, which involved specialised police intelligence teams, is part of ongoing efforts to clamp down on violent crime and bring perpetrators to justice.

Police sources indicate that during the operation, one of the suspects engaged officers in a gun battle, leading to an exchange of fire.

The suspect sustained gunshot injuries in the process and was subsequently overpowered and taken into custody.

He has since been transported under police guard to a medical facility, where he is currently receiving treatment.

The second suspect, believed to be the leader of the criminal gang, was arrested in a separate but coordinated effort.

Authorities have not yet disclosed the identities of the suspects, but investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the robbery and the events that led to the footballer’s death.

The attack occurred on the night of Sunday, April 12, 2026, along the Ahyiresu–Kwame Dwumor Sreso road in the Nyinahin District, as the team was travelling from Samreboi to Berekum.

The Police, in its statement, said the bus, which had about 30 players and officials on board, came under attack from six armed men, three of whom were wielding pump-action guns.
