87-yr-old man jailed 20 years over defilement

An 87-year-old man, Yaw Gahornu has been handed a 20 years prison sentence, after he repeatedly sexually abused a 9-year-old girl.

Mr. Gahornu was sentenced by the Police Headquarters Gender-Based Violence Court after pleading guilty to two counts of defilement.

The court imposed 10 years on each count, with the sentences to run consecutively. He was discharged on a charge of unnatural carnal knowledge.

According to the girl's mother, she noticed blood stains on her daughters underwear on August 29, 2026, after she returned from work. When when questioned the child, she identified Gahornu as the culprit, and said he always @buse her whenever she goes out to play.

According to prosecution, Gahornu had started @busing the girl since July until August 31, when he was caught in the act.

The prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Opoku Aniagyei, told the court that Gahornu had threatened to kill the girl if she disclosed the @buse to her mother.

It is reported, that on August 31, 2026, Gahornu's granddaughter caught him in the act with the girl and reported to her uncle, who then informed the girl's mother, leading to his arrest.
