The Ghana Police Service has arrested a woman and her son in connection with the alleged murder of a 36-year-old land agent and the attempted murder of his 15-year-old son at Nsawam-Aduakrom.

The suspects, identified as Abigail Cheetham, 34, and her son Prince, have been remanded into police custody pending further investigations.

According to police sources, the incident occurred on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at the family home in Nsawam-Aduakrom. The deceased were identified as Nicholas Cheetham, a land agent, and his step-son Richmond, 15.

Preliminary investigations indicate that a dispute arose after the suspect allegedly discovered that her husband had fathered a child outside the marriage. Police say the matter was later settled when Nicholas begged for forgiveness and compensated Abigail who demanded a plot of land and a huge amount of money. Abigail was, however, secretly planning the murder of Nicholas.

"On Saturday, March 7, 2026, around 4pm, Nicholas handed GH¢30,000 to his wife to keep safe till the next morning. Abigail informed Prince about her plan and told him about the money. Prince called a friend to help them kill his step-father. His friend demanded GH¢8,000 for his involvement, which Abigail paid right out of the money Nicholas told her to keep," according to reports.

That night around 12:30 a.m., Abigail is said to have had intercourse with Nicholas so he would sleep deeply. Then, she reportedly called Prince and his friend into the bedroom, and they allegedly helped kill Nicholas.

While the incident was happening, Nicholas’s 15-year-old son, Richmond is reported to have heard a noise and peeked through the window where he saw the assailants putting his father's body into a rubber bag for disposal.

Reports say while they walked out to dump the body, they realized Richmond had seen them. "After disposing of Nicholas's body, they went after Richmond, broke his neck and hit his head with a cement block till he passed out'.

Thinking Richmond had died, they left him a few meters away from the compound to get a polythene bag to carry and dispose the body too. "Fortunately, Richmond miraculously woke up, ran to the next neighbor's house with blood oozing from his head, and told them everything that transpired'.

The neighbours are said to have informed the police about the incident, leading to the arrest of Abigail, and Prince.

The Eastern Regional Police Command confirmed the arrests. “We received a report early Sunday morning and moved in swiftly. Two suspects are in custody, and we are pursuing the third suspect. The survivor is receiving medical treatment,” the command said.

Police say investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and motive.
