A man who says he was wrongly identified as a suspect by the Office of the Special Prosecutor has appealed for compensation after losing his job and suffering emotional distress.

Asare Francis, a junior high school graduate, said his ordeal began on 24th July 2024 when a post by Rainbow Radio circulated on social media with his photograph, claiming he was wanted by the Special Prosecutor.

Fearing arrest, Francis said he reported himself to the authorities with the help of his brother, only to be told it was a case of mistaken identity.

According to him, officials explained that he was not the person being sought and that the error stemmed from incorrect information allegedly provided by Fidelity Bank.

Despite being cleared, Francis said the damage had already been done.

He claims he lost his job shortly after the publication and has since struggled with mental distress.

“I was afraid when I saw the post, so I went there myself. They told me it was a mistake, and I was not the person. But I have lost my job, and I am going through a lot,” he said.

Francis is now appealing to the Office of the Special Prosecutor to consider compensating him for the hardship he has endured as a result of the error.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor is yet to respond publicly to the claim.
