Richmond Benye, a 28-year-old food vendor, has reportedly been killed following violence in the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region.

The deceased is said to have been shot on Saturday evening by unidentified gunmen while reportedly going about his daily activities.

Richmond, the deceased, who was well known in the community for his food vending business, was attacked under circumstances that remain unclear. The motive behind the shooting is yet to be established as investigations continue.

Benye leaves behind a wife and a young child, plunging his family and the local community into mourning.

The Nkwanta South area has long been affected by recurring conflicts, with periodic outbreaks of violence disrupting livelihoods, discouraging economic activity, and leading to loss of lives over the years. Despite the presence of security forces and ongoing mediation efforts between rival groups, sporadic attacks have persisted.

Following the latest incident, security agencies have intensified patrols within the municipality. The police have also launched a manhunt for the suspects involved, with efforts underway to ensure they are arrested and prosecuted.
