A gang, involved in targeting young females who are often robbed and raped in the process has been busted.

The gang has allegedly specialised in robbing and sexually assaulting their victims, mainly young ladies and students.

Twelve gang members were initially arrested, but after preliminary investigations, seven were found not to be involved in the crimes and were released on bail.

The remaining five suspects were identified as David Adusah alias “Viber,” 19; Samuel Amantor alias “Road,” 21; Andrew Odei alias “Salinco,” 21; Sharif Mohammed alias “Isco,” 18; and Joseph Addo Ofori alias “Moves,” 22. They were put before the Konongo District Court on provisional charges of conspiracy, robbery, and rape on January 8, 2026, and remanded to reappear on January 28, 2026.

According to police, the gang’s modus operandi was to lure victims into a private vehicle under the pretext of offering them a lift to their destinations, then drive them to hideouts along the Morso Road, where they were robbed and raped. Investigations revealed that after robbing and assaulting their victims, the suspects pushed them out of the vehicle or abandoned them in the bush before speeding off.

Police say some of the gang’s alleged operations include an incident on August 15, 2025, where the suspects picked up three ladies doing remedial classes at Kurofa Senior High School in front of the school at about 8:00 p.m., drove them under threat of death to a spot near Juaso, and robbed them of their mobile phones. On October 6, 2025, the suspects allegedly picked up two ladies under the pretext of proposing love to them.

After convincing them to enter the car, they drove them to a spot at Morso, robbed them of their phones, and raped one of them.

On November 10, 2025, the gang reportedly offered a lift to a lady walking by the roadside.

As she entered the car, she became suspicious and attempted to withdraw, but one of the suspects drew a knife and forced her inside.

The victim was driven to Morso, where she was robbed of her mobile phone and forcibly raped. Again, on January 2, 2026, another female victim was allegedly lured by the gang members at Abrepo Junction in Kumasi into their car, which was driven to Morso.

The gang robbed her of her phone, but she was spared rape because she was in her menses.

The gang members were arrested at New Abirem in the Eastern Region following collaboration between police at Juaso and their colleagues from the Abirem Police Command.

Addressing journalists on the matter, the Ashanti South Regional Police Commander, DCOP Joseph Nyaaba, disclosed that a search conducted in the suspects’ room revealed a military camouflage uniform, a photograph of the group leader, David Adusah, in military uniform, 49 mobile phone covers, and a bayonet case. He added that a Toyota RAV4 vehicle believed to have been used in some of the operations was also found and seized.
