Mother, three children drown in galamsey pit

A 42-year-old woman has reportedly lost her life together with three children whom she had gone to rescue from drowning in an abandoned illegal mining pit filled with water.

Two of the deceased children were her own biological sons, while the third was her nephew.

Reports indicate, that the deceased frequent the area to fetch dried cocoa trees for firewood, and after gathering the firewood, the children packed their load by the roadside and decided to run to the abandoned pit to swim.

However, the mother later realized the children were drowning. In her attempt to rescue them when she rushed to the pit, she also got trapped and died in the process.

The bodies have been deposited at the Asankragwa Hospital pending autopsy.
